Police seek fourth sergeant position, EMS transitions to town control

Spencer Finance Committee reviews police sergeant role and EMS transition to town. Police Chief Michael Befford presented a $2,576,658 salary and wages budget creating a fourth sergeant by converting a vacant Court Officer role. Fire Chief Bob Parsons presented a $734,791 budget for eight full-time firefighters through February 2027; after the SAFR grant expires, the department would need $370,000 annually to retain staffing or reduce to four full-time firefighters with call coverage at night.

Emergency Medical Services becomes a town department July 1, 2026, with $1,013,792 in budgeted salaries and wages.
