Selectmen discuss budget overrides as March 30 warrant deadline approaches

Spencer Board of Selectmen deliberates 632,845 dollars in potential overrides before warrant deadline. The board held a joint meeting with the Finance Committee to review FY2027 budgets, discussing a 264,455 dollar override for schools and a 368,390 dollar override to retain fire personnel when the SAFR grant expires in February 2027. School District Chair Jeff Savageau, Superintendent Paul Haughey, and Business Manager Gary Suter presented the total Spencer assessment of 15,620,199 dollars, with the tax impact of the fire override at 19 cents per 1,000 dollars.
Town Administrator Jeff Bridges reminded the board that they must vote by March 30 whether to place the overrides on the warrant or absorb the costs through service cuts.
