Spencer selects Cataldo Ambulance, plans town-run rescue squad department

Spencer Board of Selectmen selects Cataldo Ambulance and authorizes town-run rescue squad. The board voted unanimously to select Cataldo Ambulance Services as its contracted provider, choosing the higher-scoring bid (194 points vs. Action's 191) after determining Cataldo offered significantly lower costs over time.
In a separate unanimous vote, the board accepted a donation from the Spencer Rescue Squad to establish it as a town department with approximately 13 employees including a deputy chief for emergency medical services. Town Administrator Jeff Bridges outlined subsidy requirements ranging from $185,363 to $279,162 annually depending on employee pension classification, which the board deferred to determine later. Fire Chief Parsons and Lieutenant Hodgerney recommended the town-operated model.
